The Institute of Foundation Models (IFM), part of Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI), and G42's Inception42 released Jais 3 on October 15, 2026\. It is a family of AI models built specifically for Arabic.

Jais 3 and its speech model, Jais Speech, are available now on Hugging Face, with deployment support for vLLM and SGLang.

## What's in the release

- **Six open language models**, ranging from 900 million parameters (which IFM says is small enough to run on a phone) to a 375-billion-parameter flagship
- **Jais Speech**, a speech recognition model for Arabic and its dialects
- A **512,000-token context window** across all six language models, which IFM says is the longest of any Arabic-native model
- Five training checkpoints per model, plus the audited Arabic benchmarks and evaluation code

The models were built with Cerebras Systems.

## Built for Arabic as it's spoken

IFM says Jais 3 is trained on Modern Standard Arabic and regional dialects from the Gulf to North Africa, along with cultural knowledge including poetry, cuisine and Islamic knowledge. More than 400 million people speak Arabic.

Jais Speech transcribes Modern Standard Arabic and dialects from 19 Arab countries in noisy conditions. It can follow speakers who switch into English or French mid-sentence, keeping those words in their original script. It can also identify the dialect being spoken and add Arabic vowel marks to a transcript.

## Benchmark claims

IFM and Inception42 tested the models on their own audited suite of 24 Arabic benchmarks. According to the companies:

- The largest Jais 3 model matches the best open models on Arabic understanding and leads them on agentic tasks.
- The 3.7B model outperformed every competing open model up to 5B parameters on Arabic and agentic tasks.
- Jais Speech recorded the lowest average word and character error rates across six public test sets, including against commercial services.

These results come from the developers' own evaluations.

## Agents, not just chat

Connected to software tools, Jais 3 can plan multi-step tasks, search the web, and read, edit and produce Arabic documents, spreadsheets, presentations and websites. The same models power the Jais chat and mobile apps, and IFM says a Jais agentic platform is coming soon.

## Built on K2 Horizon

Jais 3 is the first adaptation of K2 Horizon, IFM's fleet of six fully open-source foundation models released in September, to a new language. At 7 billion parameters, IFM says the average score on its Arabic evaluations rose from 56.4 for the K2 Horizon base model to 79.6 for Jais 3.
